The Poet's Powers: Four Routes toward Weirder Work

Countless competent poems lack contrast, tension, and vibrant surprise. Across our four weeks, we will cultivate four powers, four capacities, to strengthen and to brighten our drafts. Music, image, shape, angle--although the words themselves sound neither novel nor revelatory, we will treat these elements not just as nouns but as verbs: actions to perform, skills to hone, techniques to test, all in pursuit of wonder and strangeness. Participants may expect copious close-up observations and suggestions alongside succinct critiques pitched toward radical revision.
