Ekphrastic Poetry: Turning Visual Art into Verse (on Zoom)
Dates: Aug 26– Sep 30: Six Tuesdays from 6-8 PM (ET)
Format: Synchronous (learn more)
Love art & poetry? Discover ekphrastic poetry — a form of writing that responds to works of art, such as paintings, sculptures, and photographs. From examining paintings and self-portraits to re-telling history and giving voice, this course offers different methods of writing poetry from visual art.
Together in this workshop, we will read ekphrastic works by others as well as look at works of visual art. We will use artistic elements to write fresh poems that extend existing artwork's meaning into verse, and consider the craft of emotional resonance.
Each week will include readings of sample poems, a short lecture on craft, example images, and a prompt for in-class writing time.
